Dear Friends and Family,
As you know, Kim and I are very long-time volunteers for Serving People in Need ( “SPIN”). Combating homelessness with a focus on helping families with children to change their conditions of crisis and despair into a thriving self-sufficient and housed condition is very rewarding and heartening.
This year we reach out to you with increased urgency on “Help Them Home” Day of Giving (April 22) to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
SPIN’s goal is to raise $225,000. Kim and I are asking if you could please help reach that goal.
With a GREAT FUNDRAISING DAY, we can make a tremendous impact:
1. Our Goal is to help 50 to 70 families experiencing homelessness this year.
2. Your donation is impactful with a success rate last year of over 90% of clients served having achieved self-sufficiency and maintained housing.
3. Raise private unrestricted funds to assist in moving costs, rent, and support for families with children.
Private funding from you will help SPIN leverage what the agency can do. Spin’s “New Start Family Housing Program” reaches out more proactively to families and quickly mitigates some of the damage and related trauma associated with a family as they experience homelessness. SPIN's agility to engage comprehensive services to resolve issues quickly often avoids the increasing scale of crisis and shortens the time that it takes to get families back to self-sufficiency.
SPIN is looking to develop stable funding from private donors and foundations – if you can help in any way that would be very impactful.

For almost 40 years, Serving People in Need (SPIN) has continued the legacy of founder Sam Boyce's mission to help Orange County families in need. With over 80,000 families and individuals served since its inception in 1987, SPIN's outstanding case management and family navigation services have helped the organization maintain a 90% or better success rate of client families remaining sustainably housed.
With hundreds of unhoused families apparent in the county at any given time, and precarious and unreliable federal funding for housing programs, we need your help more than ever. In 2025, we successfully housed 61 families (208 parents and children), and guided over 2400 families and individuals to essential services with access to our network of supportive services, food, clothing, hygiene and household necessities. Our goal for 2026 is to increase that impact by 25% - a lofty endeavor, but one we feel confident in reaching with the assistance of over three million giving Orange County hearts like yours!
