I'm honored to serve as the President of HomeAid Orange County/Los Angeles and am asking you to support our 24-hour "Help Them Home" campaign. I've served on HomeAid's Board for more than 20 years and it has been worth every minute of it. Our work makes a difference - a big difference - in giving moms, dads, kids, and other individuals in need a place to rest their head at night. We partner with the building industry, service providers, local governments, and caring donors to BUILD. Together we build shelter, we build hope, and we build lives. Since 1989, our projects have added more than 2,500 beds for those in need. Believe it or not, when you do the math that means that there have been over nine million times that someone has been able to have a place to sleep because of the work that we do. Please help us help others donating to my HomeAid OCLA Help Them Home fundraiser. Thanks.
In 1989, leaders in the building industry of Southern California engaged in a revolutionary project: the renovation of an old farmhouse in Irvine into affordable housing for at-risk families. This one-off project opened the door to an innovative new idea: a charitable branch of the building industry that donates their expertise, labor, and materials towards construction to reduce the overall cost of the project. HomeAid's story of helping people facing housing insecurity began.
What makes HomeAid OCLA special is how our community comes together to make our work possible. Our Builder Captains and their partners generously donate materials, expertise, time and labor toward our projects. Sometimes HomeAid OCLA owns the building; other times, we serve as the bridge between a nonprofit operator and the builder who steps up to bring the project to life. Each project we build brings us one step closer to closing the housing insecurity gap.
