Starling Rich's Fundraiser

Some words from Starling

My parents survived the period of the Cambodia Civil War and the Khmer Rouge Regime (1970-1979), spending years as refugees in Thailand. Despite the hardships they faced, they remained resilient and never lost hope.

They embraced the opportunity to rebuild their lives in the United States, overcoming new challenges with unwavering strength and determination.

We grew up in a community in Santa Ana, where economic hardship was common. Yet, for my parents, these struggles were nothing compared to the resilience they had already shown. The values of perseverance, hope, and community they instilled in us have shaped our commitment to supporting others in need.

In loving memory of my mom and dad, whose spirit and love live on in our hearts every day. We honor their legacy with gratitude, striving every day to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Our story is one of resilience, compassion, a reminder that no matter where you come from, there is always HOPE, for a new beginning!

The HomeAid Orange County | Los Angeles Story

In 1989, leaders in the building industry of Southern California engaged in a revolutionary project: the renovation of an old farmhouse in Irvine into affordable housing for at-risk families. This one-off project opened the door to an innovative new idea: a charitable branch of the building industry that donates their expertise, labor, and materials towards construction to reduce the overall cost of the project. HomeAid's story of helping people facing housing insecurity began.

What makes HomeAid OCLA special is how our community comes together to make our work possible. Our Builder Captains and their partners generously donate materials, expertise, time and labor toward our projects. Sometimes HomeAid OCLA owns the building; other times, we serve as the bridge between a nonprofit operator and the builder who steps up to bring the project to life. Each project we build brings us one step closer to closing the housing insecurity gap.
